An institutional analysis of ‘power within’ local governance: A Bazaari tale from Pakistan

چکیده
Power dynamics in local governance have profound implications for the outcomes of processes political decentralisation within developing countries. Attempts to improve participation and service delivery through strengthened regional been frustrated by inability understand transform relationship between power formal informal institutions. Through a theoretically informed empirical study institutions governance, this paper addresses challenge notion ‘power within’. Analysis Batkhela Bazaar Malakand district Pakistan reveals distinct fields relating market, representation administration, evolving interactions across these fields. Results demonstrate how power, agents operating them, actively shape interaction process contiguous evolution. Understanding within’ prompts revised thinking on best harness emergent institutional forms promote progressive inclusionary develop more effective state decentralization programmes.
